Game Summary

The Bethel College men’s track and field team claimed the 2009 NCCAA Outdoor National Championship on Saturday afternoon in Marion, Indiana. This marks the second national championship the men’s track program has earned this spring as they also won the NCCAA Indoor National Championship in February.

The Pilots were led by three individual national champions in their events including Jordan Heim in the 400m run with a time of 48.84, William Walker in the high jump clearing 2.01m, and J.W. Maierle in the long jump with a mark of 6.96m.

Runners—up in their respective events were Trent Chupp in the 200m dash with a time of 22.69, Nate Phillips in the 400m run with a time of 49.29, Diondre Lewis in the high jump clearing 2.01m, Kyle Klein in the pole vault clearing 4.35m, J.J. Jackson in the shot put with a toss of 15.75m, and the Pilot 4x400m relay team of Heim, Phillips, Jontae Randolph, and Robby Burns with a time of 3:18.91. Third place finishers included Chupp in the 100m dash with a time of 11.17, Phil Yike in the discus with a throw of 42.02m, and Chupp in the long jump with a mark of 6.84m. Bethel head coach, Tony Natali and his staff were named the NCCAA National Coaching Staff of the Year.

The Bethel College women’s track and field team finished second to Malone at the 2009 NCCAA Outdoor National Championship Meet held on Saturday afternoon in Marion, Indiana.

The Lady Pilots were led by six national championship efforts including Jessie Spearman in the 400m run with a time of 58.29, Amanda Westcott in the triple jump with a mark of 11.33m, Nichole Arnold in the shot put with a toss of 12.68m, Arnold in the discus with a throw of 39.48m, Sarah Mott in the heptathlon with 4,117 points, and the Lady Pilot 4x400m relay team of Irene Kangai, Kaila Stevens, Beenne Capre, and Spearman with a time of 3:52.23.

Runners—up in their respective events were Stevens in the 400m run with a time of 58.32, and the Bethel 4x100m relay team of Kati Beutler, Amy Hausner, Capre, and Aunnalea Mustard with a time of 49.09. Third place finishers included Kangai in the 400m run with a time of 58.65, and Caitlyn Gager in the pole vault clearing 3.43m. In addition, Bethel’s Nichole Arnold was named the Athlete of the Meet.
