Bethel College Pilots: 3
Great Lakes Region Short & Long Course Cross Country Championships

Game Summary

Adrian, Michigan was pleasant, sunny and mild as the Pilots raced the Great Lakes Region Short and Long Course Championships Friday, October, 3rd. The races were unconventionally eclectic with a span of 3K and 6K options for women and 5K and 8K options for the men. The top 3 runners from each of the men’s two races were scored together to determine the team champions, as did the women’s two races.

Bethel’s Irene Kirathi stole the show during the Women’s 3K by taking the win in 11:05.46. Following her making top 15 were Jessica Scott (8th in 11:38:08), Ashley Wray (13th in 11:46.92), and Katie Heisey (15th in 11:50.83).

Just as there were many good things happening amidst the 3K women, the 6K women also stepped up as Amber Wray claimed the victory in a time of 23:19.13. The other Bethel ladies who worked hard in the 6K included Danielle Lewis, Courtney Chapman and Charity Brown.

There were many improvements throughout the team today, which also continued on the Men’s side where Austin O’Conner placed 4th in the 5K with 16:17.83, followed by Ryan Starkel in 12th (16:37:27) and Cory Naragon in 21st (17:17.40).

Also pressing toward the front was Harrison Fausey in the 8K, landing 10th for Top Ten with 27:07.47, and Cato Naragon in 14th (27:33.08), Jared Mead in 25th for a PR of 28:41.48, Drew Bishop in 30th (29:19.88) and Ryan Waybright in 33rd (29:31.77).

Coach Storlie said, “The Pilots are demonstrating good work ethic and heart as they strive to do the right things on practice days and race days…it is SUCH a fun team to work with!”

The Pilots will return to Kenosha, Wisconsin next week!
