Women's Golf Finishes In Fourth At Northwood Tournament

Game Summary
The Bethel College women’s golf team earned a fourth place finish in the Northwood University Invitational this weekend at Currie Golf Club in Midland, Mich.
The Pilots shot 327, 324 to finish just one stroke out of third place in the tournament which featured some of the toughest NCAA DII competition in the country. Tournament winner, Grand Valley State, is currently ranked No. 4 in NCAA DII and shot 612 to take the tournament title. Runners up and NCAA DII No. 9 ranked Ferris State shot 625 to finish in second place.
The Pilots were led by Katie Powell who shot 76, 77 to finish in fourth place in the tournament. Kara Ballinger’s 82, 78 was good enough for a ninth place finish in the two day event.
Playing as an individual, Melanie Day capped her weekend by shooting 80 on Saturday which is a career best for the freshmen.
“We played well on a tough course against some very tough competition,” said head coach Danny Randolph. “Katie did outstanding and Kara came back very well on Saturday. I’m excited to see Melanie shoot a personal best so early on in her college career.”
The Pilots return to action next Friday and Saturday as they host their first tournament of the spring at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Ind. Bethel tees off both days at 12:00 pm in the six team tournament.
