Women's Golf Finishes As Runners Up At NAIA National Championship

Game Summary

The NAIA No. 3 ranked Bethel College women’s golf team earned a second place finish at the NAIA National Championships in Rapid City, SD.

The Pilots finished second behind the five time defending National Champions from Oklahoma City University. The Pilots shot a four round total of 1261 (303, 330, 306, 322) under extremely tough conditions for much of the tournament.

Bethel was led by seniors Shanna Page and Kara Ballinger. Page finished the tournament in fifth place by shooting 308 for the week while Ballinger earned a 16th place finish by shooting 317. Both Page and Ballinger earned NAIA All—American honors for their performances this season.

Katie Powell had a solid week as she shot 320 which earned her a 25th place finish. Jessica Layman finished just one stroke behind Powell shooting 321 for the week while Brooke Gilbert shot 336 for the four round tournament.

“I thought our team did a tremendous job this week playing in some very tough conditions,” said Head Coach Danny Randolph. “I’m extremely proud of our seniors. They put Bethel on the map in terms of women’s golf. What we did this week will go down as one of the greatest accomplishments in Bethel athletics history.”
