USF Invitational

Game Summary

The Bethel College women’s golf team shot a second round 308 to storm back from a 14 shot deficit to capture the victory in the USF Cougar Invitational on Tuesday afternoon in Fort Wayne, IN.

After shooting a first round 335 on Monday, the Pilots found themselves in third place with a nearly insurmountable 14 shot gap between them and the tournament leader the University of Saint Francis.

Led by Beth Slusher’s 73 and Katie Powell’s 75 on Tuesday, the Pilots turned in a round of 308 to capture the tournament title.

The Pilots had three top ten finishers with second place finisher Jessica Layman (154), Powell (161) fifth place, and Slusher (164) tenth place.

“I’m proud of how Beth led us today especially knowing that we needed a great team round,” said Bethel Head Coach Danny Randolph. “Tuesday’s round was unbelievable. It was a great accomplishment for this young team to win a tournament over other members of the unaffiliated conference.”

The Pilots return to the course on Labor Day as they travel to Allendale, MI to take part in the Grand Valley State Laker Classic at The Meadows Golf Course.
