Bethel College Pilots: 1
Pilots Invitational

Game Summary

The Bethel College women’s golf team came from 15 shots back to win the Pilots Invitational at Blackthorn Golf Course in South Bend, Ind. on Saturday. The Pilots shot 341, 309 for the two day tournament.

Bethel was led by overall tournament winner Katie Powell who shot 71 on Saturday to lead the Pilots to victory. Jessica Layman improved by 15 shots on Saturday to shoot 77 and Beth Slusher shot a 79 to pace the Pilots.

Bethel topped first round leader Hope College by five shots to gain the tournament title.

“Katie shot one under for the day and that was a tremendous accomplishment,” said Head Coach Danny Randolph. “Katie, along with Jessica and Beth really led us on this amazing comeback. “I told the team after the tournament that if they keep this up I might die of a heart attack at 31.”

The 15 shot comeback tops the team’s 14 shot turn around earlier in the season at the University of St. Francis Invitational.

The Pilots head to St. Louis on October 5th to compete in the Triton Invite at Gateway Golf Links.
