Women's Soccer Falls In Overtime
Game Summary
The Bethel College women’s soccer team opened up the 2009 season with a disappointing double overtime loss to Davenport University on Friday night.
After a scoreless first half which saw the Pilots get out shot 6-4, Bethel got the second half off to a promising start with a goal in the 47th minute. The goal came when Freshmen Pua Hall headed a ball into the goal off the assist by Caitlin Weeks.
Although the Pilots were outshot in the second half 10-5, Bethel held the 1-0 lead as the match crept towards the end of regulation. With ten minutes remaining, however, Davenport was able to capitalize on a penalty kick to knot the match at one.
The match remained scoreless through the final ten minutes of regulation and the first overtime until Davenport was able to take the victory with a ball lobbed over goalkeeper Elyse Powell nearly four minutes into the second overtime.
Bethel looks to get on the winning side on Tuesday when they take on another WHAC opponent in Indiana Tech starting a 7:00 pm in Mishawaka.
