Wawasee's Ashlee Ort Signs To Play Soccer At Bethel

Ashlee Ort, a 3-sport athlete from Wawasee High School, has committed to continue her soccer and academic careers for the 2009-2010 season at Bethel College (NAIA) in Mishawaka, IN. Ashlee will be playing for Head Coach Pete Morey as he enters his 12th season of coaching at Bethel College.

Ashlee was a 3-sport letter-winner during her senior year playing, soccer, basketball, and track and field. She played soccer under Coach Dodd Cunningham and was a 3-year letter-winner. Besides soccer, Ashlee was a 3-year letter-winner in basketball, 1-year letter winner in softball and a 1-year letter-winner in track and field. She made the All-Northern Lakes Conference 1st team in soccer. Ashlee won the following soccer awards: Rookie of the Year during her sophomore year; Outstanding Defensive Player during her senior year. Wawasee Soccer made it to the Semi-state twice during her sophomore and junior years.

In basketball, she won the Defensive Award her senior year; won the Newcomer Award her junior year; made it to the State Finals during her sophomore year; and made it to the Final Four her junior year. In track, Ashlee was named to the All-Northern Lakes Conference – HM team as she was a sectional runner-up in the 800 meters during her senior year. She was also named MVP in track/field her senior year.

“We are thrilled to add Ashlee for this fall,” states Head Coach Pete Morey. “She has a great combination of speed, size, athleticism, toughness and skill that will definitely make us a better team. I would expect that she will contribute to our team from day one and will only get better every day in training. On top of that, she is just a super person with a fun personality that any coach would love to see in a player.”

“Bethel was an easy choice for me once I visited the very first time,” states Ashlee Ort. “The mix of athletics and academics seems like a great opportunity for me. I never dreamed I would get to play two sports at a competitive level in college but now its reality. I am planning on growing as a person while being at Bethel with the Christian atmosphere.”
