Kendra Zache Transfers To Join Bethel Softball

Kendra Zache, a 2008 graduate and right-handed pitcher from Brandywine High School (Niles, MI) has committed to continue the next four years at Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN.
“We are so excited to add Kendra to our pitching staff for next season,” said Bethel College Head Softball Coach Anna Welsh. “I see her stepping in right away and making an impact. We have a solid pitching staff returning and Kendra makes us so much stronger and adds a ton of depth to the rotation.”
Zache was named to the All-District, All-Region, and All-Conference teams all four years in high school. She was a Michigan All-State selection as a junior. She was named to the Michigan All-Star and the South Bend Tribune SportsFest teams in 2008. Kendra earned 12 Varsity letters and was a three-sport All-Conference player in softball, volleyball and basketball. She was named captain and team MVP in all three sports as a senior. She was the Brandywine Athlete-of-the-year as a junior and as a senior. The Herald Palladium named her the Female Athlete of the Year in 2008. The Niles Daily Star named her ‘Athlete of the Week’ three times.
Kendra was also named to the Academic All-Conference team all four years. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Quill & Scroll, National Honor Roll, Who’s Who, Chairman of the junior/senior prom, Freshman Class President, and High School Student Council.
When asked what makes Kendra excited about her decision to transfer to Bethel she said, “I am so excited to play at Bethel because it's close to home, it will provide me with an excellent education, and I get to be a part of an awesome softball team!”
Zache, a Western Michigan recruit last year decided to not play for the Broncos in 2008-2009 to focus on academics. “I recruited her last year, but the timing wasn’t right for her,” added Welsh. “Luckily for everyone, the timing is right this year. I’m looking forward to coaching her!”
“When I wasn't playing a huge part of me was missing, and I realized that it was softball,” Zache added. “I decided to play again because I truly missed it.”
Kendra plans on majoring in Early Childhood Education at Bethel. She is the daughter of Rick and Deb Zache of Niles.
She will be one of nine local players on the 2010 roster. The Pilots were 52-7 in 2009 and finished ranked No. 8 in the country. Bethel advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the third straight year.
