Fisher Gets a Taste of Professional Softball

With one year remaining on the Bethel College softball team, Pilots senior catcher Brittney Fisher has begun to dream about a future career in softball. While she has always planned on a career in coaching when her playing days are over, Fisher recently got a taste of what it might be like to be a professional softball player.  That experience came when her summer team the Indiana Slammers played an exhibition doubleheader against the NPF’s Chicago Bandits.

Although the Slammers came out on the losing end against the defending NPF World Champions, Fisher had the experience of a lifetime.

“It was by far one of the most memorable experiences from softball I have had,” said Fisher.

The experience for Brittney included facing off against an elite professional pitching staff.  She began the day with the tough task of facing former Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year, Kristina Thorson. Although Fisher and the rest of the Slammers came up hitless against Thorson, Brittney had several good at-bats.

The opposition didn’t get any easier in game two as Brittney faced former Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, Eileen Canney. Although she came up hitless again, Fisher was able to make her presence know behind the plate as she gunned down 2008 NPF Most Valuable Player Stacy May at third as she tried to return to the base after a wild pitch.

“It was the experience of a lifetime,” exclaimed Brittney about the opportunity to show off her skills against some of the best professional softball players in the country.

Before Brittney will see what her future in softball holds, Fisher and the rest of the Bethel College Pilots will look to add more memorable experiences during the 2010 season as she will be one of eight seniors who return from a team that finished last season with a 52-7 record and a No. 8 national ranking.
