Softball Earns No. 1 Academic Standing from NFCA

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced on Monday the girls got game Top Ten All-Academic Teams, based on GPAs submitted for the 2008-09 school year. Through this program, the NFCA honors high school and collegiate softball teams for their success in the classroom.

The Bethel College softball team led the entire NAIA with a 3.545 team GPA.

"I was so excited to hear that we were number one,” said Head Coach Anna Welsh. “I know how hard the girls work on and off the field and it's very gratifying to have the top team GPA from last year. We hold the players to pretty high standards and their hard work paid off.”

The Pilots ended the 2009 season with the No. 8 ranking on the softball field, and after finishing the year with the No. 1 team GPA they became one of only two schools in the entire NAIA to finish in the top 10 in both academics and athletics.

“I'm extremely proud of them all,” added Welsh. “It's not easy to be in the top 10 in both academics and athletics; it takes a lot of hard work. The players deserve all the credit for all they were able to accomplish last season!"
