Women's Tennis Opens Season With Win at Indiana Tech
Game Summary
The Bethel College men’s and women’s tennis teams traveled to Fort Wayne on Wednesday afternoon to take on Indiana Tech in the season opener for both teams. While the men dropped a 9-0 decision to the Warriors, the Lady Pilots registered a hard-fought 5-4 win.
The Bethel ladies opened play by winning 2 of 3 doubles matches. Carrie Edison and Brittney Anglin prevailed at number two doubles with a solid 9-7 victory while Kristine Hosinski and Jill Focht cruised to an 8-2 win at number three. In singles action, Indiana Tech claimed 3 wins in 5 matches to even the team score at 4-4. The deciding match was played at the number four position where Bethel’s Sarah Cressman came out on top in a three set contest to ice the Bethel win, giving them a 1-0 record to start the season.
“We knew this was going to be a challenging opener for both our men and women,” stated Bethel coach, John Natali. “The men’s team from Indiana Tech is very good and the ladies squad is greatly improved over last year. Our men played hard, but were just over-matched today. But it was great to see our ladies persevere in a tight match to open the season. Carrie and Brittney along with Kristine and Jill got us off on the right foot by winning in doubles. And then Sarah closed the deal for us with a clutch win at number four singles. Overall, we were very encouraged with the effort we saw at every position today.”
Lady Pilots return to action on Saturday, September 5th when they will travel to Fort Wayne to meet the University of St. Francis at 10:00am in their MCC opener.
