Women's Tennis Opens MCC Play With Win at St. Francis
Game Summary
The Bethel College women’s tennis team opened MCC play on Saturday morning by traveling to Fort Wayne to play the University of St. Francis Cougars and registered a solid 7—2 victory. With the win, the Lady Pilots improve their season record to 2—0, and 1—0 in the MCC.
The match began with doubles where Bethel swept all three matches. At number one doubles, Sarah Cressman and Whitney Neuenschwander won by the score of 8—5. The number two doubles match went to Bethel’s Carrie Edison and Brittney Anglin 8—4 while Kristine Hosinski and Jill Focht claimed the win at number three doubles by the score of 8—3.
In singles action, Bethel’s Carrie Edison (1 singles), Sarah Cressman (4 singles), Kristine Hosinski (5 singles), and Jill Focht (number 6 singles) all became double winners for the day as they registered singles victories to go along with their wins in doubles.
“This win was a good way to open conference play for our ladies,” stated Bethel coach, John Natali. “Just like Wednesday’s match with Indiana Tech, St. Francis showed that they were an improved team this season. So this was a very good win for our team as all of our top six players won in either singles or doubles. And Carrie, Sarah, Kristine, and Jill all put together fine efforts to win in both singles and doubles today. ”
The Bethel women will be back in action on Tuesday, September 8th when they will host Huntington University at 1:00pm on the courts at Baker Park in Mishawaka.
