Women's Tennis Gets Rain Shortened Win Over Calumet
Game Summary
The Bethel College men’s and women’s tennis teams hosted Calumet College on Wednesday afternoon in a non—conference match—up and both posted winning efforts. The Bethel men registered an 8—1 victory while the Lady Pilots recorded a 5—1 rain—shortened triumph.
The women’s match began with doubles where the Lady Pilots were winners at the numbers one and two positions. Leading the contest 2—1, play turned to singles where Jill Focht won at number four for Bethel. Brittney Anglin and Whitney Neuenschwander both split sets at numbers one and two singles respectively before the rains came. Play then moved indoors where both Anglin and Neuenschwander won third set tie—breakers to end the contest in favor of the Lady Pilots. With the win, the Bethel women ran their season record to 3—0.
“First of all, it was good for our men to get into the victory column today,” stated Bethel coach, John Natali. “Everyone got a chance to play and to gain some confidence heading into the thick of MCC play. Secondly, I was proud of the effort we got today from our ladies. We were missing two of our top five players today due to injuries, but the rest of the team stepped—up to get another win today. ”
The Bethel men are off until Tuesday, September 15th when they travel to Taylor University for a 3:00pm match. Meanwhile, the Bethel women return to the courts on Saturday, September 12th when they will host Grace College at 11:00am at Baker Park in Mishawaka.
