Women's Tennis Loses at Taylor
Game Summary
The Bethel College men’s and women’s tennis teams traveled to Taylor University on Tuesday afternoon to take on a pair of talented Trojan squads. The Bethel men dropped a 9-0 decision while the Lady Pilots fell by the score of 8-1. As a result, the Pilot men now stand 1-3 for the season (0-2 MCC), and the Bethel women are now 3-2 (1-2 MCC).
The Lady Pilots began play with singles where Taylor won five of six matches. The lone Bethel win came at number five where freshman, Jessica Steensma, earned a 6-3, 7-5 victory. In doubles action, the Lady Pilots dropped all three contests, although they played solid tennis, particularly at numbers one and two doubles.
“First of all, the Taylor men’s team is a good one,” stated Bethel coach, John Natali. “And when they’re on their game like they were today, they are extremely good. We just could not find any weaknesses at any of their positions this afternoon. Secondly, our ladies once again fought hard today against some difficult odds as we were still without several key players due to injuries. And Jessica Steensma did a great job for us winning at number five singles. In addition, we saw some very good tennis from our numbers one and two doubles teams this afternoon.”
The Bethel men and women will return to the courts on Saturday, September 19th when they will host Goshen College at 11:00am at Baker Park in Mishawaka.
