Women's Tennis Falls to Spring Arbor
Game Summary
The Bethel College men’s and women’s tennis teams traveled to Spring Arbor University on Tuesday afternoon to take on the Cougars in MCC action. In a marathon day of tennis, the Pilots were unable to secure victory in either contest. The Lady Pilots dropped a hard-fought 7-2 decision that was much closer than the final score would indicate while the Bethel men fell in a 5-4 heartbreaker. The losses leave the men with a 1-5 overall season record (0-4 MCC), while the ladies now stand 4-3 for the season (2-3 MCC).
The women’s match began with singles play where Bethel’s number one player, Carrie Edison, came through with an impressive 6-4, 6-2 victory over Muriel Adib. However, Spring Arbor posted wins at the other five singles positions to take command of the match. Still, Bethel’s Brittney Anglin, Julia Horn, and Jill Focht all took their opponents to three sets before bowing out. In doubles action, the Lady Pilot number one team of Sarah Cressman and Whitney Neuenschwander dominated their opponents in posting an 8-2 verdict.
“I thought our singles performances today were really good,” stated Bethel Coach John Natali. “Carrie continues to play smart, solid tennis for us at number one, and all the other girls battled to the end before coming up short today. In addition, Sarah and Whitney played an excellent set of doubles for us as well. We’re naturally disappointed with the loss, but certainly not with the effort and attitude our girls are putting forth.”
The Bethel men and women will try to rebound on Friday, September 25th when they will host the University of St. Francis (IL) at home on the Bethel College courts. The men will begin at 2:30pm with the ladies following at 4:00pm.
