Women's Tennis Signs Pair For Fall 2009

The Bethel College women’s tennis program has signed two additional players to their freshman class entering the fall 2009 season.

Jill Focht from Northwood High School in Nappanee, Indiana has signed a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers with the Lady Pilots. Jill was a four-year scholar-athlete at Northwood HS and served as co-captain of the 2009 tennis team that claimed sectional and regional championships this spring. In addition, she was a member of the National Honor Society.

“We are pleased that Jill has decided to come to Bethel and be a part of our tennis program,” stated Bethel coach John Natali. “Jill is an experienced doubles player who enjoyed a great deal of success this past season at Northwood HS and will be a great fit with the team we already have in place for 2009-10.”

Jessica Steensma from Grand Rapids, Michigan has also signed on to continue her academic and tennis careers at Bethel College. Jessica brings three years of varsity experience to the Lady Pilot program and plans to major in nursing this fall. As a high school junior, she earned the team’s award for most singles wins, and as a senior this past season, she was named All-Conference in singles. Jessica was also a member of the National Honor Society.

“We believe that Jessica has a great deal of potential to take her tennis game to the next level as a collegian,” stated Bethel coach John Natali. “Jessica will join a strong group of returning players this fall and we definitely have our sights set on another success season of Lady Pilots tennis.”
