Volleyball Splits With IIT and Madonna in UMD Tournament

Game Summary

The Bethel College volleyball team split a pair of season opening contests today at the University of Michigan Dearborn Early Bird Tournament in Dearborn, Michigan.

The Pilots got their season off to a great start with a four set victory over the Illinois Institute of Technology early Friday afternoon. Bethel won by scores of 25—15, 25—17, 17—15, and 25—13.

The Pilots, however, were unable to match their earlier success in the evening contest as they took on NAIA powerhouse Madonna University. The unranked Pilots nearly took the first set but eventually fell by the score of 25—27. The NAIA No. 12 ranked Crusaders then took control of the match winning the final two sets by scores of 3—25 and 15—25.

Ashley Wagner led the Pilots on the day with 18 kills and two aces. Emily Henry added 14 kills and eight blocks while Michelle Werner chipped in 11 kills and five blocks. Ashley Pagel contributed by dishing out 58 assists on the day.

The Pilots, now 1—1, will continue action at the UMD Early Bird Tournament on Saturday afternoon with two matches before heading home to Mishawaka.
