Volleyball Splits on Day One of the Wildcat Classic

Game Summary

The Bethel College volleyball team split on its first day of competition at the Wildcat Classic in Marion, Ind. The Pilots lost the first match of the day to Northwestern Ohio University in straight sets 19—25, 17—25, 18—25. Bethel bounced back to beat a tough University of Saint Francis (Ill.) in a five game thriller 17—25, 25—17, 21—25, 25—23, 16—14.

Leaders for the Pilots were Callie Hartman with 26 kills and 22 digs; Emily Henry with 16 kills and 7 blocks; Ashley Wagner with 20 kills and 4 blocks; Sarah Carroll with 37 digs; and Ashley Pagel with 63 assists, 14 digs and 4 blocks.

“I was proud of our efforts today,“ said Head Coach Julia Reininga. “We played both teams hard and it was great to pull out that five set win. We play two more tough schools tomorrow so we will need to be ready to go.“

Bethel is now 5—3 overall and 1—0 in MCC play.
