Volleyball Struggles on Day Two of IWU Wildcat Classic
Game Summary
The Bethel College volleyball team lost two tough matches on the last day of the IWU Wildcat Classic in Marion, Ind. on Saturday afternoon.
After starting off slow, the Pilots were unable to get on track in the loss to the University Michigan-Dearborn in the first match of the day. The Pilots fell in that match by scores of 23-25, 25-16, 23-25, 24-26.
Bethel was able to bounce back in their second match of the day only to eventually fall in a hard fought five game thriller to the University of Northwestern Ohio. Bethel, who had lost the Racers the day before in three sets, fell in five sets by scores of 25-22, 22-25, 26-28, 25-17, 15-17.
“Unfortunately we got off to a slow start this morning and that cost us the match,” said Head Coach Julia Reininga. “The second match was a hard fought battle against a very good team. The girls played hard and I was very pleased with their play.”
Leaders for the Pilots include: Emily Henry with 27 kills and 10 blocks; Ashley Wagner with 18 kills and 4 blocks; Karissa Rillema with 15 kills and 9 blocks; Michelle Werner with 12 kills and 9 blocks; Ashley Pagel 86 assists and 30 digs; and Sarah Carroll 43 digs.
The Pilots begin MCC play with a home contest against Spring Arbor on Wednesday starting at 6:00 pm.
