Student Life

Commuter Students

As a commuter student, you are an essential part of the Bethel community and we want to help you get involved. Participating in social events, chapel and other aspects of student life will help you get the most out of your experience at Bethel. We encourage you to spend time on campus getting involved in activities, hanging out with friends and making an impact on others. We’ve put together some important information to help you get started.

Places to hang out and relax

Looking for a place to hang out between classes? The Acorn, located in the lower level of Sailor Residential Center, offers students snack and meal options as well billiard tables, ping pong, student meeting space and a lounge with a television.

If you have just a few minutes between classes, Café a la Carte, conveniently located on the second floor of the Miller/Moore Academic Center is a great stop for a quick snack.

Sufficient Grounds, located adjacent to campus on McKinley Avenue, is the college’s coffee shop. Various meal, snack and drink options are available as well as computer access, study rooms and plenty of comfy couches.

The Bowen Library also offers a number of study rooms and Mae’s Corner, a newly renovated reading room with comfortable seating.

Student lounges with vending machines are also located on the first floor of the Middleton Hall of Science and the bottom level of the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center. Vending machines are also available in the lower level of the Miller/Moore Academic Center.

Getting involved

There are plenty of ways to get involved in student life activities! The Social Life Committee plans fun events both on and off campus for all students. Listen for announcements in chapel, watch for fliers around campus and check the social life page regularly for event sign-ups.

Commuter students are also welcome to participate in Bethel’s intramural program. Sign-ups for each activity take place online.

Registering your car

All students with a vehicle on campus must register through the campus safety office. Before starting classes, take your vehicle registration, proof of insurance and Bethel I.D. to the campus safety office to register and obtain a parking permit. Students must follow Bethel’s motor vehicle regulations and park in the designated areas. Your permit must be updated each year and there is an annual fee that will be applied to your student account.

Meals and snacks

Commuter students have the opportunity to purchase a block meal card for $49 to be used toward any 10 meals in the Dining Commons. These meals are entered onto your Bethel I. D. card and will carry over from year to year. Please stop by the main office in the Dining Commons during business hours for details or to add meals to your card.

A variety of meal and snack options are also available at Sufficient Grounds located adjacent to campus on McKinley Ave, The Acorn in the lower level of Sailor Residence Hall and Café a la Carte in the Miller/Moore Academic Center.

Chapel attendance

Commuter students are encouraged to attend chapel services each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10 a.m. Chapel is required for commuters if they have a class scheduled immediately before or after chapel. Contact the Student Development Office with any questions concerning chapel attendance.

Fitness facilities

Fitness facilities are available to all students during posted hours in both the Wiekamp Athletic Center and Sailor Residential Center. Your Bethel ID is required for admittance.

ATM

An ATM, provided by Teacher’s Credit Union, is available in the entryway of the Dining Commons.
