EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
Responsibilities
- Conduct weekly staff meetings.
- Brainstorm ideas for articles. Assign those ideas to staff writers. Be available for questions or assistance with each article.
- Make sure contributors are aware of upcoming deadlines.
- Make phone calls to follow up on unanswered questions about articles. Track down material that is not turned in by the deadline.
- Edit all articles.
- Be responsible for gathering and editing articles and designing layout for any section.
- Stipend/honorarium available.
Time
Approximately 100 hours per semester
SECTION EDITOR
Responsibilities
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Assign stories for section and remind writers of deadlines.
- Be aware of photography assignments needed and give to photographers.
- Write and edit stories as they are submitted.
- Design layout for section pages.
- Format all copy and photographs for the section.
- Stipend/honorarium available.
Time
Approximately 60 hours of work per semester
ADVERTISING MANAGER
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain files on each individual advertiser, as well as one "no" file.
- Contact potential advertisers and make sales, as well as related follow-up calls.
- Maintain financial records.
- Design advertisements and/or obtain camera-ready copy.
- Perform public relations-type work.
- Maintain standards of advertising policy.
- Stipend/honorarium starts at 15% commission.
Dress
Professional while meeting with advertisers; casual while in lab
Time
Approximately 8.5 hours per week
HEAD PHOTOGRAPHER
Responsibilities
- Take pictures required for each issue of the newspaper.
- Keep abreast of all events on campus that would require pictures for the newspaper and make sure a photographer is present.
- Recruit volunteer photographers.
- Work with volunteer photographers to ensure all pictures are taken.
- Download pictures promptly in appropriate folders.
- Produce CDs of digital photographs.
- Must have own camera.
- Show initiative.
- Stipend/honorarium available.
Time
Approximately 6 hours per week
CIRCULATION MANAGER
Responsibilities
- Prepares The Bethel Beacon with fliers.
- Recruit volunteers to help insert and separate into distribution piles.
- Distribute The Bethel Beacon.
- Keep the circulation file up-to-date.
- Stipend/honorarium available.
Time
Approximately 12 hours per semester
