Staff Job Descriptions
EXECUTIVE EDITOR
Responsibilities
- Conduct weekly staff meetings.
- Decide on theme, ladder, verse, dedication and design elements to appear in yearbook.
- Design cover, page dividers, title page, master pages, folio tab and any other special assignments.
- Designate sections and any specific design elements to editors.
- Meet deadlines and make sure contributors are aware of upcoming deadlines.
- Be available for questions or assistance with the completion of each section.
- Keep abreast of works-in-progress and delegate when needed.
- Edit all copy and pages.
- Prepare pages for submission to Herff Jones.
- Stipend honorarium available.
Time
Approximately 100 hours per semester
SECTION EDITOR
Responsibilities
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Assign copy for section and remind writers of deadlines.
- Be aware of the photography assignments needed and give to photographers.
- Write and/or edit copy as it is turned in.
- Design layout for section pages.
- Format all copy and photographs.
- Stipend/honorarium available.
Time
Approximately 60 hours per semester
ADVERTISING MANAGER
Responsibilities
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Help create advertising campaign.
- Establish and maintain files on each individual advertiser, as well as one "no" file.
- Contact potential advertisers (e.g. churches, businesses and parents) and make sales, as well as related follow-up calls.
- Maintain financial records.
- Design advertisements
- Perform public relations-type work.
- Develop and maintain advertising policy.
- Stipend/honorarium starts at 15% commission.
Dress
Professional while meeting with advertisers; casual while in lab
Time
Approximately 8.5 hours per week
HEAD PHOTOGRAPHER
Responsibilities
- Take pictures required for the yearbook.
- Keep abreast of all events on campus that would require pictures for the yearbook and make sure a photographer is present.
- Recruit a volunteer photography staff.
- Work with volunteer photographers to ensure all pictures are taken.
- Download pictures promptly in appropriate folders.
- Produce CDs of digital photographs when needed.
- Must have own camera.
- Show initiative.
- Stipend/honorarium available.
Time
Approximately 6 hours per week
