The Beacon is currently published online at beacon.bethelcollege.edu. It is available on campus to students, faculty and staff. The newspaper represents the student voice of Bethel College, while it also serves as a journalism teaching laboratory under the supervision of Student Media Director Tim Ceravolo and the Communication Department.
Students on staff with The Beacon develop their writing, editing and leadership skills while learning the various aspects of newspaper reporting and publishing. Student editors generate story ideas, assign stories, write stories and manage the layout and design of the newspaper. A chief photographer is also on staff, using the latest digital equipment to capture the images that bring a newspaper to life. The staff is committed to good journalism, which means accuracy, fairness and balance. Student editors and the chief photographer receive a salary and a scholarship for their work.
The Beacon also sells advertising and is always looking for student sales executives. Those students get a chance to learn the business side of selling newspaper space and make some money at the same time. Student executives are paid a commission for the sales they make.
