Research Interests

My specialty areas include cultural-historical geography, ethnic geography, material and popular culture. My ongoing research includes the following topics:

1.     Finnish North-Americans Today (collaborative research with Senior Researcher Jouni Korkiasaari of the Institute of Migration, Turku).

2.     The Popularization of Recreational Amenities (sauna, hot-tubs & waterslides) in the American hospitality and health industries.

3.     Michiana Scandinavians - a cartographic and statistical analysis of Scandinavian population in the northern Indiana and southwestern Michigan area.
