Summer Academic Camps 2015

Academic Camps Logo

Bethel’s academic camps give campers, from age 9-14, the chance to explore their interests with college professors, instructors and leaders who channel their knowledge into a fun, hands-on learning experience. Make new friends and explore with us!

Science Camp

Beth Kroa, Assistant Professor of Chemistry

FOOD FUN! Food, glorious food! We all need to eat, but how do chemists help create our food? Learn how food chemists analyze the snacks we eat. We’ll measure the content of sugar, vitamin C, iron and calories in different food items. Chemical tests will be used to determine whether a food contains carbohydrates, fats or proteins. We’ll simulate digestion (GROSS!), looking to see how our bodies do their business!

No experience needed to join us! We will work on basic steps while improving technique. We will put some combinations to your favorite musical songs! Please wear comfortable clothing and bring your smile! Dance shoes are not required.

Gospel Choir Camp

Zach Gillis, Gospel Choir Director

In this camp we will do so much more than sing. Although singing is a major component, we will dive into the technical aspect of gospel music through learning vocal techniques, performance, and song delivery while having fun doing it! The week will culminate in a small gospel concert featuring the campers so they can really show their stuff! If you love to sing, then this is the camp for you! Gospel music has a rich history in the United States of America and has been a common form of religious expression with roots dating back to the 17th century. Placing an emphasis on dominant vocal harmonies, gospel music has been known to stir souls across the world.

Your child will experience all aspects of the ceramic process from formation to firing and finishing their pieces with glaze.

If it is scary imagining your kids taking cooking lessons in your home kitchen, send them to our profession kitchen instead! During this week your kids will learn basic knife skills, food safety, basic nutrition, entree preparation, meal planning, and organizational skills. By the end of the week your child will be able to provide a restaurant quality meal for their loved ones. The week will conclude with a meal prepared and served to show off the students’ newly acquired skills!
