Pychology Professor to Address Michiana Human Resource, Training and Learning Professionals

Bethel College’s Norm Spivey, Ph.D., professor of psychology, will speak on “Learning and Memory: Theory and Application” during a Michiana ASTD (American Society of Trainers and Developers) luncheon on Thursday, April 26. The meeting is located at the Riverside Terrace, 426 Lincolnway East, Mishawaka, Ind.  Registration, networking and lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. The program and discussion will begin at noon and end at 1 p.m.

“The presentation will focus on defining learning and memory; explaining classical conditioning, operant conditioning and observational learning; explaining the stages of memory (including short-term memory, working-memory and long-term memory) plus general principles for memory improvement,” says Spivey.

Spivey is a professor of psychology at Bethel College specializing in educational psychology, developmental psychology and learning theory. His research interests include listening and reading comprehension; comprehension monitoring; automaticity and peak performance. Spivey earned a B.A. in Psychology from Montana State University-Billings, an M.A. in Psychology and his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado.
