Members of the Bethel College Women’s Soccer Team will travel to Houston, Texas, next week to provide assistance to those affected by Hurricane Harvey. They will partner with Bethel alumni LJ Evers and Joe Hutchinson, who work for the Keystone Project in Houston, to deliver supplies and help the nonprofit provide disaster relief.
The team is collecting baby supplies (formula, diapers and wipes), bug spray, cleaning supplies and toiletries. Donations can be dropped off to Assistant Coach Rachel Lindvall’s office, Room 123, Wiekamp Athletic Center, 1001 Bethel Circle, Mishawaka, Ind.
Donations must be received by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20. The team will leave on Sept. 21 and return to campus on Sept. 24.
“We have a 10-day break in our game schedule which is very rare,” says Lindvall. “Since we had this break, it got me thinking that we could actually take a couple days and drive to Houston to help. We want to be able to show support for these victims no matter how little we can offer.”
Bethel’s Office of Global and Community Engagement is working on coordinating additional opportunities for students, faculty and staff to serve those affected by the recent hurricanes. (More information will be available as soon as details are confirmed.)
