Bethel Ranked Nationally in Top One Percent for Community Service

Bethel College Service Day

Bethel College was recently ranked second in the nation for community service participation on Washington Monthly’s 2013 Baccalaureate College Rankings. Bethel is in the top 15 percent across all categories, being ranked 54th out of 350 colleges and universities.

Washington Monthly rates schools based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarship) and service (encouraging students to give something back to their country). The full list of rankings can be found at

“We expect Bethel graduates to leave our campus prepared to be influencers and world-changers,” says President Gregg Chenoweth, Ph.D. “One way we accomplish this is placing a high priority on service, giving students real-world opportunities to have a positive impact in their community. The Washington Monthly ranking recognizes our success in this area and motivates us to further advance our emphasis on service.”

Bethel’s community service participation will be seen across the Michiana community next week during the school’s annual service day. On Tuesday, Oct. 1 students, faculty and staff will donate thousands of hours of service at approximately 60 different locations including Food Bank of Northern Indiana, Unity Gardens, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Feed the Children and Habitat for Humanity.
